We’ve received some reports that someone claiming to be with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is calling people in our community and trying to scam them. The caller is using real names associated with the Sheriff’s Office and is using a “spoofed” phone number that shows up as the Sheriff’s Office number. The caller advises the victim they have failed to respond to a jury summons and must pay a fee. 🛑THIS IS A SCAM🛑 The Sheriff’s Office will never call demanding money or threaten arrest.
Please share this information with friends, family, and neighbors – especially our senior citizens who are many times more vulnerable to these types of scams.
It’s important to always be wary and suspicious of anyone who contacts you and makes demands for money or personal information. Best practice is to hang up and contact law enforcement.
