Welcome to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office G.R.E.A.T. web-page.
This is a new and exciting program for the students in Brunswick County. This spring semester will be the first time this program has been introduced into to our school system. It will be taught at Leland Middle School this spring and then will expand to all Middle Schools for the 2010-2011 school year. G.R.E.A.T. stands for Gang Education Awareness and Training.
The program’s objectives are to;
- Alter Perceptions about Gangs
- Develop Social Competency Skills
- Foster Empathy for Victims
- Encourage Pro-Social Affiliations
- Promote Social Responsibility
This program started in 1991 in Phoenix, AZ and has spread across the county to include over 10,000 G.R.E.A.T instructors. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students of Brunswick County to interact with each other, learn important life skills, and to realize that each and every one of them can be G.R.E.A.T.
